Answers to common questions about buying, selling, and swapping on Maine Nugs.
Getting Started
What is Maine Nugs?
Maine Nugs is Maine's local swap shop for good — a free classifieds site where you can buy, sell, swap, and give away items with your neighbors. Every listing is a "nugget of good" that supports your community and the planet. Think Uncle Henry's, modernized.
How do I create an account?
Tap "Sign In" in the top right, then choose "Create an account." You can sign up with your email address. Once verified, you can post listings and contact sellers.
Is it really free?
Yes — posting listings is always free. There are no fees, no commissions, and no hidden charges. Maine Nugs is a community project, not a for-profit marketplace.
What can I list?
Anything legal that you'd find in a local classifieds paper: furniture, tools, vehicles, electronics, clothing, farm goods, services, and more. Check our Terms of Service for prohibited items.
Buying & Contacting Sellers
How do I contact a seller?
Sign in, find a listing you're interested in, and use the phone number provided to call or text the seller directly. It's neighbor-to-neighbor, just like it's always been in Maine.
Why phone only? No in-app messaging?
We keep it simple and direct — just like the Uncle Henry's you grew up with. A quick call or text gets things done faster than back-and-forth messaging. Real conversations build real trust.
Is there buyer protection?
Maine Nugs is a community bulletin board that helps you find each other. All transactions are between individuals. We recommend meeting in a safe, public place and inspecting items before purchasing.
Can I search for specific items?
Yes! Use the search bar in the header or browse by category. You can filter by listing type (for sale, wanted, swap, free) and sort by newest or closest.
Selling Tips
How do I post a listing?
Tap "Post a Free Ad" and follow the simple wizard. Add a title, category, description, price, photos, and your phone number. You can post a quick 30-word classic ad or go detailed with photos.
How many photos can I add?
You can add up to 6 photos per listing. Photos are automatically compressed for faster loading — no need to resize them yourself.
Can I edit my listing after posting?
Yes! Go to your Account page, find your listing, and tap "Edit." You can update the description, price, and photos. Title, category, and location can't be changed after posting.
How long do listings stay active?
Listings are active for 30 days. You can renew, mark as sold, or remove them from your Account page at any time.
Any tips for a great listing?
Include clear photos, an honest description, and a fair price. Mention the condition, dimensions, and why you're selling. Listings with photos get significantly more views.
Safety & Trust
How do I stay safe when meeting someone?
Meet in a well-lit public place (a library, police station lobby, or busy parking lot). Bring a friend if possible. Trust your instincts — if something feels off, walk away.
How do I report a suspicious listing?
Use the report button on any listing page, or email us at hello@sustainable207.com. We review all reports within 24-48 hours and take action to keep the community safe.
What's the "nugget of good" I see on listings?
Every listing on Maine Nugs is mapped to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). When you swap, sell, or give something away, you're contributing to responsible consumption, reducing waste, and supporting your community. The SDG tag shows which global goal your listing supports.

About Maine Nugs
Who runs Maine Nugs?
Maine Nugs is a passion project built in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. It's run by one person with zero paid staff and zero investors — just a belief that small, local actions make a big difference.
How can I support the project?
The best support is using the site — post listings, tell your neighbors, and spread the word. If you'd like to contribute financially, visit our Support page where you can buy us a coffee.
What makes this different from Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace?
Maine Nugs is built for Maine, by Maine. It's phone-first (call or text sellers directly), maps every transaction to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and has zero algorithms deciding what you see. It's the local swap shop, modernized.
